Accessories A Cut Above

This bag is full of holes—and that’s a compliment. Accessories obsessives don’t need to be told that it’s an Alaïa, carried on the arm of Lane Crawford’s ultra-fashionable fashion director, Sarah Rutson, as she navigated the Paris menswear shows last month. What might need telling is that such laser-cut, perforated accessories are a burgeoning trend. From our favorites from Alaïa’s atelier to strappy sandals, heels, boots, and flats high and low, we’ve rounded up the best of the bunch—plus a few famous fans, like Rutson and Giovanna Battaglia.

With a striking new linear layout in the main aisle for showcasing the most impressive fabrics and new products. At the end of this aisle, a fun and highly visual display was used to illustrate the "Spring-Summer 2011" Color Range.

Colors Range | Twice a Year, Eurovet Organizes a Color Concertation to Elaborate a Color Range Which Will Set the Tone for Future Trends
Interfiliere brings together a selection of Lingerie and Fashion professionals (style offices, prestigious guests) to evaluate, discuss, and anticipate upcoming trends for Summer 2011.
Thus 18 months before collections are presented in the stores, Interfiliere reacts behind the scenes to present its trend viewpoints.

The show's fashion teams organize a color consultation, involving a number of different fashion professionals, to determine the color range and anticipate the fabrics of the future; international stylists brainstorm and discuss, in collaboration with the French Color Committee, to define the season presented at the show.

1 • Tenderness: vintage, romantic and memories
2 • Antidote: against pessimism, an explosion of colors and celebration of youth
3 • Oasis: natural and rich, new loungewear

MacKenzie-Childs distinctive style is an American original

The Mac Kenzie-Childs brand is best known for distinctive designs which combine vibrant colors and pattern-on-pattern surface decoration to create a fresh, original aesthetic best described as “tradition with a twist."  The various groups are an inventive decidedly decorative blend, combining a flavor of Belle Epoch and whimsy. The designers offer furnishings, ceramics and fabrics.
The iconic American home furnishings company,  will host their Annual Barn Saleon July 16th, 17th, and 18th.  Thousands of people flock to Aurora, New York each year for this incredible event. The annual sale features handcrafted ceramics, enamelware, glassware, furniture, décor and more.
In addition to great bargains, music, and food, the annual sale at MacKenzie-Childs will offer visitors free tours of its restored farmhouse, a three-story Victorian structure. a video studio tour, showing the handcrafted production process at MacKenzie-Childs will also be shown. Merchandise will include high-quality seconds and discontinued items.
This design company has active now for twenty seven years, and has avid followers and collectors. The pieces are fun and can add a sophisticated playfulness. The ceramics are stunning graphics, in a combination of pastels or accented with the bold checker board motif that runs throughout the collections. The upholstery can be soft and charming,  sweet but still artful, or have a more dramatic, anything goes "Through the looking glass'  appearance. The patterns are simply put, contained wildness, with striking color and pattern combinations. Some of those are not for the faint of heart, but lovers of color simply adore them. They are dramatic accent pieces, both well made and comfortable. The price for all the detail and hand work is on the higher end, but again, these are collectible items.  The quality speaks for itself.  Whether you categorize it as Victorian Pop or Updated Cottage, the fine finish and comfort of this line makes it a classic.

The fish back chairs, fanciful table base, tableware and chest in this image from the Rochester Symphony Showhouse by MacKenzie-Childs shows off their signature style. It  is much imitated, to be sure, and widely admired.

This console table from the Courtly Stripe collection can be used anywhere.
It is striking and  useful. The charming whimsy of the  combined patterns adds just a touch of the unexpected, which is  a hallmark of all good design. It is also why this brand has continued to grow.
Fans from all over the country collect the charming ceramics. The knobs that are offered for sale individually are a great way to update a tired looking dresser.
There are also magnificent  hand painted collector  items like the beds and armoires that are coveted family treasures.
If you have the good fortune to attend this years sale, let  this examiner know how you made out.  We plan to attend on Friday.

Fashion Trends 2009/2010/2011 Spring Summer Fall Winter & Show (Style. Hairstyle. Today. Make Up)

Bregje Heinen: a little reminder

Here's a simple reminder that stripes for summer don't have to be limited to the likes of tees and dresses... A striped swimsuit or bikini - particularly one that hints at a vintage cut - is perfect not just for the beach but for layering under other pieces. This one is worn by Bregje Heinen in Jackie Magazine.
